GREAT TORRINGTON

This historic town, situated in the heart of Tarka Country, is just one and a half miles drive. It is a friendly traditional market town with its recently refurbished Victorian Pannier Market. In the centre of town is Torrington 1646, which reconstructs the 17th century town at the time of the Battle of Great Torrington. TARKA COUNTRY

Torrington Commons surrounds Great Torrington with its 365 acres of unspoilt countryside and 20 miles of footpaths. Take one of its circular walks and enjoy the magnificent views of the Torridge Valley which inspired Henry Williamson to write "Tarka the Otter". Alternatively walk or cycle along the Tarka Trail to Bideford, Instow, Barnstaple or Meeth, along the old railway line. Cycle hire nearby.
